Common questions

Do I have to be in the military to join?

No. Barracks Life is for service members, veterans, and the civilians who want to date or connect with us. When you sign up, you can choose Civilian Ally as your branch — your profile is welcome.

Is it free?

Yes. The basics — making a profile, browsing, matching, and messaging — are free, forever. Optional Plus and Premium tiers add features like seeing who liked you, advanced filters, and incognito browsing. You'll never be paywalled before saying hello.

How does verification work?

Two layers. Every member completes a quick selfie + liveness check before they can message anyone. On top of that, vets can submit redacted service documents (DD-214 or .mil email) for a manual review — when that's approved, your profile carries a Verified Vet badge.

Is this just for LGBTQ+ users?

Barracks Life was built by and for the LGBTQ+ military community, but the app welcomes all orientations. The community standards, content, and safety culture are shaped around protecting and celebrating queer service members and veterans.

What if I'm currently deployed or in a sensitive role?

Your privacy is the default. You can hide your profile from your phone contacts, browse incognito (Premium), control who can message you, and blur the photos you share with non-matches. OPSEC stays your call.

Barracks Life is a project of Gay Veterans Inc. — built by an LGBTQ+ veteran-led team. The mission is connection: dating, friendship, and community for a population that has, historically, had every other app working against them.
